Portland III Friends have always been an important part of my life and I owe that to my mom. She always pushed me to be as social as possible, while growing up I was only very sociable and friendly and I owe it all to my mom. She will always push me to get out of my comfort zone and make friends everywhere I could. Thanks to this I was able to fully understand what it means to have people in your life that feel like family but are not related to you by blood. Seeing my mom try to make new friends in Portland is very inspiring because it shows me that one is never too old to meet new people and that no matter what age you are you might just meet your best friend when you least expect it. "Friends!!!! When we talk about friendship, I am in my comfort zone. I have been very lucky since I have few but good friends. The problem for me was to keep in touch with them maybe because my mother was overprotective of me. Although I still have friends from school, university, work, and from ...

Angels I have never been a person of faith myself, even when I was really young I never believed that there was an all-powerful god up there looking at us. My mother always let me choose what I wanted to believe in she wasn't forceful at all with religion like her parents were with her. Her belief in god is really lovely and very different from a normal belief in god like the one the church pushes on people. That is why whenever it comes to her angels and stuff I am always ready to pay attention to what she tells because I know just how much they mean about her. "Angels are “a supernatural spiritual being who serves God. A messenger of God characterized as having a human form with wings and a Halo”. That’s the definition of an angel.  For me, they are my savior, my guide. My angels always come to me when I need them. So, I needed them when I arrived in Portland, and they came, my angels came to rescue me. Adam, my daughter’s husband walked me through it, he went with me...

To-Do List I remember my mom's first week in Portland as if it was last week. She was feeling very happy to be with my sister and with her husband Adam but she was still extremely sad because of my grandmother. However, as my mom does she never likes to stay still. She put herself the goal to complete a list of stuff that my sister had her due, like takeout a credit card, getting her driver's license, and her social security number. My mom has never liked showing weakness in front of my sister and she has always respected my sister's time. That is why I remember just how much she had to do in her first week in America because I was the designated assistant for my mom that weak, I helped her study for her driver's license test, understand which bank was better for the needs that she had and understand the paperwork that needed to show to get her social security number. It was a lot but it was all worth it when I saw her smiling ear to ear after getting her driver's l...

Reborn in the USA

Getting the residency for my mom was a big step into beginning her new life's chapter, we would talk about what her plans would be as soon as she got it, and when she finally did it was happiness all around. However, there was a lot of stress surrounding how it would be the first time my mom had ever moved and lived away from Colombia in all her life. She would have to start from zero in a totally different country with no one to rely on apart from my sister and her husband. She would also worry about what this move would be like for my Grandmother, being so far away from her would hit them both a lot. Then like most big events in someone's life, my grandmother passed away and it shook us all. It put everything on break and it turned all of my mother's plans into hold, trying to rebuild her life in the USA had now to be done with the most difficult emotion holding onto her, grief. "September 25 th is the date I moved to Portland. I left all behind, but I never thoug...

Introduction Before I start with the actual content, I wanna give an introduction to the main topic of this blog which is my mother. My mother is someone that I hold extremely dear and it's someone that has always been there for me no matter what. So, I decided to make this blog about her and the new challenges that she has embarked on ever since she decided to move to America. Seeing her go through the incredible journey of leaving your life behind and moving to a completely different country at her age is really inspiring. For the next 14 weeks, my blog posts will explain in detail what it is that my mom has gone through to get to where she is right now. What challenges she has faced, what she has achieved, what her next plans are, etc. It will also include my opinion and my own feelings on the matter of how it feels to see my idol go through all of this stuff from my perspective. Finally, it will also include some special inclusion of my mom's own writing, she is trying to p...
